Charles Leonard Stinson

Horse Cave

Charles Stinson, age 85, of Horse Cave, KY, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, December 30, 2023 surrounded by his family and friends. He was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Horse Cave Christian Church. He was on the Horse Cave Fire Department for 60 years and was a constable for 18 years. He worked for Austin Tobacco Company for 46 years as a tobacco buyer, and he owned and operated Horse Cave Stockyards and Logsdon Valley Oil Company. He served 18 years on the SCRTC Board of Trustees.

He was the son of the late Ernest Leonard Stinson and the late Louise Bunnell Stinson.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Carroll Stinson; his stepson, Frankie Walters; his son-in-law, Jimmy Briggs; and his first wife, Janice Doyle Stinson.

He was survived by his wife of 41 years, Ellen Medeires Stinson; one daughter, Traci Briggs-McGuire (Sammy) of Glasgow, Kentucky; one son, Todd Stinson (Kay) of Whitehouse, Tennessee; one stepson, Scott Walters (Alena) of Munfordville, Kentucky; one daughter-in-law, Teres Walters; eight grandchildren, Spencer Walters (Ann), Kenzie Mohon (Lucas), Shelby Cravens (Matt), Austin Walters, Geran Minor, Blake Minor, Addison Briggs, and Sharlee Walters; five great-grandchildren, Jillian Walters, Oaklynn Mohon, Spence "Muscles"  Walters, Adalyn Cravens, and Briggs Cravens; two caregivers, Wanda Long and Diane Lopez; one special friend, Tommy Gibson; and many other family and friends also survive.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM-8:00 PM CT on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Brooks Funeral Home and again from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM CT on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Brooks Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM CT at Brooks Funeral Home with Pastor Don Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery in Horse Cave, Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to ARK, Hospice of Southern Kentucky, or Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery.
