Hattie Florence Rice

Hattie Florence Rice, age 91 of Munfordville, was born May 21, 1932 in Hardyville, KY to the late Harry “Dixie” Rice and Alberta Brown Rice. She departed this life Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at the NHC Health Care Center in Glasgow. She was a member of Allen Seminary Baptist Church in Hardyville, KY.

She is preceded in death by one daughter, Wilma Bernice "Tootsie" Maxey; two sons, Johnny W. "Butchy" Rice and Melvin Rice; daughter-in-law, Linda Barnette Rice; parents, Alberta and Harry “Dixie” Rice; four brothers, Junior, Bobby, Billy, and Leon Rice; two sisters, Doris Jean Rice Buckner and Geneva Stewart.

She is survived by her children, five sons, James E. Rice, Munfordville, KY, Floyd Childs, Los Angeles, CA, Willie Rice and Eugene Rice (Teri), Louisville, KY, and Mitchell Rice, Fredonia, KY; four daughters, Mary Sue Strickland Brodie (Henry), Elizabethtown, KY, Rowena Rice Bostick (Robert), Munfordville, KY, Janice Rice (June), Munfordville, KY, and Phyllis Ann Rice Clark, Glasgow, KY; two sisters, Edna Faye Rice Robinson (Arthur), Glasgow, KY, and Mayme Faulkner, Munfordville, KY; two brothers, Elwood and Lloyd Rice, Campbellsville, KY; 18 grandchildren, Stevie, Tyrone, and Tracey Strickland, Lamonte and Eric Rice, Stephanie Haskins Bradley, Pamela Jordan Morrison, Raphael Bostick, Maranda Bostick, Latresha Bostick Hutchinson, Tanya Childs and Deanna Washington Childs, Miegon Hatchett and Kim Hatchett Kirk, Jerome Rice, Amaya Rice, Shantera Rice, Ayanna Waggoner Logsdon, and Kentera Obin. 33 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, including her new friend and roommate at NHC Mrs. Vera Stillwell.

“I’d Like the memories of me to be happy ones each time you think of me, remember to smile because of the good times we’ve shared, it was all worthwhile. I’d like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave behind when life is done. Bury your sorrows in doing good deeds, miss me but let me go. The family will receive friends from 4:00- 8:00 PM CT on Friday, September 8, 2023 and again on Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 9:00 AM- 1:00 PM CT at Brooks Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 1:00 PM CT with Pastor Michael Rice and Rev. Stanford Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at Woodsonville Memorial Gardens.
