Obituary

Haywood Franklin, lovingly known as a devoted servant of God, a loving husband, and a pillar of strength in both his family and community, was born on December 25, 1941, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on a day that represents the greatest gift ever given, his life became a reflection of love, service, and unwavering faith. Haywood lived his life with purpose, compassion, and a steadfast belief in the goodness of God. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend whose presence blessed every life he encountered. His journey on this earth reflected the heart of a servant, the spirit of a leader, and the testimony of a man who trusted the Lord through every season of life. Haywood was the beloved son of the late Benjamin Franklin and late Minnie McDonald Franklin. He carried the family name with honor, strength and integrity.

He attended Central High School in Louisville Kentucky. In 1960, Haywood answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps. With courage and honor, he served two tours during the Vietnam War, demonstrating bravery, resilience, and selfless sacrifice. He met the love of his life, Connie Lambirth, their love blossomed into a remarkable 65-year marriage, built on commitment, devotion, and enduring love. He was the proud father of Cortez, Jerome, Cornelius, and Denise. Haywood was cherished by his family because he gave of himself lovingly and freely, always striving to be a good example of strength and inspiration.

After completing his military service, Haywood Franklin continued his life of excellence for 27 years, as an exemplary Federal Government Inspector with Naval Ordinance in Louisville, Kentucky. His integrity, discipline, and strong work ethic earned him the respect and admiration of all who worked alongside him. His commitment to serving others extended deeply into his community. He served with distinction as a member of the Hardin County Sheriff's Department for eight years and as a bus driver for Hart County Schools for another eight years. In every role, he was known for his kindness, reliability, and genuine care for people.

Above all, Haywood Franklin was a man of deep faith and a committed member of Little Barren Baptist Church in Sulphur Well, Kentucky. He worked passionately as a Deacon in his church, tirelessly in his community, and provided generously for his family. He was a mentor to many, offering wisdom and guidance, and a friend to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His words carried power because they were rooted in experience, respect, and a sincere relationship with God. He also carried a unique sense of humor, with a wonderfully dry wit accompanied by an infectious laugh that could lighten any room and lift the hearts of those around him. Haywood's life was marked by humility, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to doing what was right. His optimistic spirit inspired many to keep going, keep believing, and keep pressing forward.

On Monday, April 6, 2026, at home, Haywood Franklin peacefully laid down his burdens and entered into eternal rest. Though his earthly journey has ended, his testimony remains. Haywood Franklin has gone from labor to reward. From earthly struggle to heavenly peace. From faith to sight. We take comfort in knowing that Haywood is in the presence of the God he served so faithfully. His life is a blessing. His memory is a treasure. And his legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege to know him.
