Loretta Hatfield Burba

September 12, 1930 — October 9, 2013

Flora Loretta Hatfield Burba was born in Grayson County, Kentucky in a little farm house on September 12, 1930 to the joyful union of Omar Keith Hatfield and Ida McKinley Hawkins Hatfield.  At an early age, she moved to Jefferson County. At the age of 10, while walking home from school, Loretta bowed down on the side of the road, and repented unto God’s satisfaction and was saved.

On May 20 th , 1950, Loretta was united in marriage to Sylvester Lee Burba, and to this happy union was born four daughters, Helen Lucille, Sylvia Lois, Doris Marie, and Marilyn Lorine. She lovingly dedicated the remainder of her life to her precious savior, her dear husband, and her cherished family.

Loretta was a member of Union Light Baptist Church from early adulthood until she joined Pine Grove United Baptist Church by credit of a letter, where she remained a faithful member until death. Loretta departed this life on October 9 th , 2013, drifting away to heaven in the peace and comfort of her home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Omar Keith Hatfield and Ida McKinley Hawkins Hatfield; two brothers, Roy Edward Hatfield and George Washington Hatfield; and two sisters, Shirley Mae Sturgeon and Bertha Lucille Hatfield; and a host of family, friends and loved ones.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years,  Sylvester Burba of Cub Run, KY; four daughters; Helen Sefsik and husband Mark of Sparta, TN;  Sylvia Glass and husband Elwood of Munfordville, KY, Doris Dorsey and husband Greg of Cub Run, KY, and Marilyn Kidwell and husband Doug of Mammoth Cave, KY; two brothers, Thomas Carroll Hatfield and wife Janette of Boston, Ky, Omar Keith Hatfield Jr. and wife Jean of Munfordville, KY; one twin sister, Lora Annetta Davidson of Cub Run, Ky; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Loretta loved cooking and being with friends and her family.  She was many things – a child of God, a faithful servant, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, a caring sister, a kind neighbor, and a dear friend.  She will be forever loved, warmly remembered, and greatly missed by all who knew her.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Friday, October 11, 2013 and from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Brooks Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Brooks Funeral Home with Bro. Leland Childress and Bro. Larry Burba officiating. Interment will be at Union Light Cemetery, Mammoth Cave, KY.
