Michael Louis Burd

Michael Louis Burd,76, of Munfordville, peacefully passed away at his home on Saturday, May 31, 2025. 

Born on January 16, 1949 and raised in Munfordville, Kentucky. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, D.L. and Rachel Burd. He began his career with L&N Railroad at the young age of 22 and dedicated 38 years of service, proudly witnessing its evolution into CSX Railroad. He retired in 2009 as an operator of a ballast regulator.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Laura Early Burd; his three children, Michael (Julie) of Lakeland, TN, Ryan Scott (Eric) of Horse Cave, KY, and Jessica Burd of Brentwood, TN; and his six cherished grandchildren, Jacob Choate, Sam Choate, Trey Burd, Jack Burd, Ella Burd, and Cate Burd, who affectionately knew him as " Daddy Burd" and "Daddo."

Mike was a member of the Munfordville First United Methodist Church. For several years, he volunteered his time as a part-time groundskeeper for the historic Woodson House. He was also a gentle outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time at his cabin, where he worked diligently to make it look like a state park. Feeding his birds, exploring trails, and watching wildlife from his front porch swing were favorite pastimes. Mike was also an avid fan of basketball, whether high school, college, or professional.

Visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home in Munfordville, KY, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 from 4 PM to 8 PM CT, and on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, from 10 AM to 1 PM CT. Funeral Services will take place at 1 PM CT, on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. He will be laid to rest at Old Green River Union Cemetery in Woodsonville.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Hart County Scholarship Alliance or Animal Rescue Kare (ARK) /Animal Haven.
